Summer Reading and Major Changes

Hello Internet World,
Its been awhile since I have been able to post and I am so so sorry. Life has been a little busy for the following reasons:

  1. I recently bought a house, meaning that I am now an adult and had to move in and fix up a place which was made more difficult because of...
  2. Summer Reading. Need I really say more on the subject.
  3. Our still newish manager was let go last week. So now we have a new new manager coming in. all in the middle... of summer.
So lets take a peak at what I've been up too.

Lets start with this little guy! I found the image on a google search for black and white robots. I traced him on transparent paper and threw him up on the wall with the help of a projector.
Here he is drawn and cut out. I had started to color him a bit, giving a lovely copper color. I used shiny foil for the bolts.

and tada!! Here he is in all his finish glory. Of course after I took this picture I knew this window need some serious cleaning...

THATS MUCH BETTER!! Added some gears and the pun is perfect!

We also got some fun coverage from our local paper. This is the face my co-worker made for her area! I just wanted to brag on her and bit and show how awesome she is. She did much of this by her self, including constructing a nose! A NOSE!!!

Also just for funsies... Here is my "I'm A Homeowner" Picture. Ain't we cute!

I'm hoping to post more pictures from programs as the summer goes on. So ready for a great summer!

Spring Time!!

I DID IT!!! I uploaded the pictures I had been talking about and can now share them!

Up first is the window display I did for the library. One thing you should really know about me is that I'm am a master of puns. The make me smile and I hope it does the same for you.So here is my window:
Its not the best picture but hey, there you go. If you want more just ask and I will post. The window says "Drop into your Library". See what I did there??? The thing I am most proud of with this window is the umbrellas. You can't tell from this picture, so good thing I have another!
They are made from poster board and out lined in black marks-a-lot. I colored the handle because we were sans black poster board. I used about 10 poster boards total, but that because I really winged it. You should really only need about 6.

On to the next project: The bulletin board. I had such a hard time coming up with a theme for this one. I wanted it to be spring-y in nature, but we already had a flower one that my co-worker had done.I was inspired  by this pin which I just loved. This is what it looked like:
There was this one as well :
And this what the finished product is. I think you will be able to tell how I used these inspirations in what turned out to be the final product:

Over all I am very happy with the way things came out! If I would do it again I might do a different font for books. Here are so close ups on the special touches.
For the books, I found some really good pictures of  popular middle reader books. Then I used the open book die cut that we had. I think they look like the bows you see on kite tails.

The kites were made by my wonderful fiancĂ© , Sean. He helps me out around here when I have a lot on my plate. He is kinda great. ANYWHO, the kites are made from poster board and tissue paper. Unintended result: the glue made the side curl up so it kinda looks like its flying! HOW COOL!?!

So I hope you have enjoyed this post and that it may help you make a beautymus spring display all your own!

Camp NaNoWriMo

Hi All!!
Just stop in for a little update. Summer planing is in full swing here at the library. All of the prizes and most of the promotional items have arrived. I spent most of the day when they came in giving all the prizes homes. WHEW!
This month I've also decided to give my self even more to do and participate in Camp NiNoWriMo. I've tried for the past two years to do it November, but that month is just super busy for me. I can hardly find time to do normal things like clean (ha) much less time to write. So I'm hoping that cracking down and picking a much less busy month will help me reach my goal of writing a novel. I really just want to see if I can do it. It would just be a bonus if its a good book as well!
Hopeful I'll be posting some of the displays I've done of the library soon. I have to get the pictures on the computer and well... I'm lazy and a procrastinator. So keep an eye out for that and I'll write again soon!

ahem...

HELLO INTERNET WORLD!!!!

So yea, hi. As you may have guessed, my name is Lindsey and I'm a librarian... Well in that I work in a library and am called that. I don't have the fancy letter behind my name...YET! I've been working for a year in the local library here and freaking love it! (If you don't count the crazies, but hey doesn't every job have them?) My official job title is Library assistant/ Teen Programmer. I'm the one that gets to come up with crazy craft, games, and other activities for kids ages 7-18. I also deal with some 20 somethings which is really my peer group, so this is fun but challenging. I mean how do you get your peers to respect you a an authority figure?

So my hopes for this blog is that it can be a space where I can both teach and learn. I've been at my current position for almost a year now, and what started out as a way to pay the bills (HA), has become a budding career. I have found a place where I can grow and I think that I have learned a thing or two and what to be able to share.

I will be sharing past programs, library displays and occasional book review. I'd like to post at lest once a week, but life is life so that my not always happen. I look forward to sharing and learning with you all!!
